A Taiwanese vet and director of a local animal shelter, Jian Zhicheng, committed suicide after becoming depressed with having to euthanize several dogs.
Jian looked after abandoned animals at the Xinwu Animal Protection and Education Center and had shared a special bond with them.
However, animal rights activists bullied the Taiwanese vet with threatening messages. They called her ‘Butcher with Beauty.’
A television program revealed the number of dogs Jian had euthanized over the years, consequently leaving the young vet distraught and depressed.
In her suicide note, as per Chinese media, Jian explained how the authorities forced her to euthanize the dogs. She felt completely horrible about it. Her complete note has not been fully revealed to the media to respect privacy.
Many people knew Jian for her kind heart and dedication towards her fluff friends. The 31-year-old had worked at the shelter for several years, dedicating her nights and days.
The stray animals at the shelter depended on Jian for tending them back to health. Jian took care of the sick animals and provided adequate treatment till they were ready to be adopted.
In an interview, Jian condemned the purchasing and selling of dogs and later revealed how the authorities forced her to put almost 700 dogs to sleep.
Since many people did not comprehend the difficult task of accommodating the rising number of abandoned animals at the shelter, they criticized Jian for euthanizing them.
Meanwhile, under immense pressure, Jian took her life after injecting herself with the same euthanizing drugs. Her husband and the police found her and took her to the hospital immediately.
Sadly, on May 12, Jian died in the hospital and her soul reunited with the 700 dogs in heaven.
We at PooochStar hope this can be a lesson for us to respect and help our vets instead of blaming them.
