Being disabled does not really mean that you are limited to what you can do. You might need to do things a little differently or with a little help, but you can also accomplish things that people without disabilities can.
And Tobi, a two-legged dog, is an inspiring example of how a disability is not a barrier to accomplish things in life.
Back in 2018, Someone dropped off an Australian miniature shepherd at the Humane Society of Fort Worth in Texas, an organization that advocates for animal protection and care. Since he had no front legs, they nicknamed him Tobi the Wonder Dog as a positive note of his overcoming.
Shortly after he arrived in the shelter, Fox 4 News did a feature on him. And thanks to that, there has been an outpour of donations. This enabled him to get a new set of wheels. And this was him posing for the camera happily using it.
A special education teacher named Paige Bradford in Arlington, Virginia adopted Tobi. And there he had found a new purpose in life. Paige realized that Tobi had been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement to her students.
With just a simple connection with Tobi, the kids learned to be more empathetic and less afraid of disability.
More importantly, Tobi also empowered those who have disabilities to embrace themselves. He inspired them to push beyond what they can’t do.
For example, the visually impaired girl immediately learned the letter T which stood for Tobi. Although classes had been held virtually due to the pandemic, they still had the Tobi connection.
While Tobi waits to see the kids again after the pandemic and play with them, he is living his life with Paige and their 30-minute pets during the morning. We hope you inspire more kids, Tobi. Keep doing the good work.
