While Hurricane Dorian did lots of damage across many states in the US, many dogs also got abandoned. Thankfully for this sweet puppy, a brave deputy noticed and rescued her from the flood.
In September 2019, Hurricane Dorian first passed through the Bahamas for more than 24 hours before it moved to the coast of Florida. It continued to destroy homes and properties in Georgia and Carolinas. The damage Hurricane Dorian caused was worth billions of dollars.
While the massive storm was ongoing, officers of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Florida were on high alert for rescues and other emergencies. They received a call about a really suspicious vehicle left on the side of the road in Apopka Boulevard.
Deputy officer Josh Tolliver was assigned to check the abandoned car. The car fell into a ditch and it was starting to fill up with water. Deputy Tolliver was surprised to see a puppy left inside the car. The dog was scared and wet.
Deputy Tolliver didn’t think twice about saving the dog. He opened the door and scooped the dog out of the car. He wrapped the dog with a warm blanket and brought her to safety.
Deputy Tolliver gave her the name Dorian.
As part of the rescue procedure, Dorian should be brought to Orange County Animal Services for assessment and documentation. However, when the community read about her rescue story on Twitter, a lot of people raised their hands in bringing her home.
Instead of surrendering Dorian to the shelter, Deputy Tolliver decided to give her a permanent home!
Dorian’s story was only one of those dogs who were left behind during the hurricane. Some dogs were rescued on time, but there were dogs too who got lost and died. The lucky ones were brought to the shelters for adoption.
Thank you, Deputy Tolliver, for your heroic efforts in saving lives during the hurricane! Thank you for giving Dorian a second lease in life. Your kind deeds will surely be rewarded and blessed!
