A maintenance man has the job in apartment buildings to fix leaky faucets or broken lights and so much more. They also see what happens behind closed doors as they need to enter your house to do their work. Often, it is the same old normal living conditions. But sometimes the unbelievable is happening.
For this maintenance man in Clayton County, Georgia, this is the worst problem he could have ever encountered – and it was not even the reason the apartment owner called him to fix. But he still had to fix it.
The problem was a very skinny, grey pit bull. Clearly, this dog was being neglected in this apartment building.
Wanting to rescue him, the maintenance man rang the police. But he could not rescue the dog as it would be considered dognapping.
He called animal control and they left notices on the dog owner’s door. But this did not stop the abuse. Finally, the maintenance man got his chance.
The owner finally gave in to the demands, but instead of handing the dog over, he just left the dog in a small cage on the street and abandoned him.
Although it was a terrible thing to do to the poor dog, it gave the maintenance man the opportunity to help the dog. Which is all he wants to do.
He did not hesitate to rescue the dog from the cage and take him to the nearest animal hospital, which was one and a half hours away.
The lady who works at the animal hospital, Cinnamon Koch, could not believe her eyes when seeing this dog. It is the worst case she has ever seen. Both she and the maintenance man were crying in disbelief. The dog is very sweet and loving, and just gives kisses all the time.
After a check-up, the veterinarian said that the dog had burns on his paws and is skeletal. Although the dog looked terrible, the vet said he will most likely survive.
No one knew the dog’s original name, so they called him after his guardian angel, the maintenance man, Mikey.
Four young girls heard about this dog’s situation and decided to donate their weekly allowance to the recovery of the dog. And they visit Mikey as often as possible. Mikey weighed only 24 pounds (10 kg) when coming in and this is about half of his ideal weight.
Unfortunately, there have been no arrests. Although the police know the culprit, they are still investigating the case.
