Saving a dog is one of the most rewarding things you could do. To see a puppy have life and hope back in its eyes will make you very grateful. This dog thanked his rescuer by giving him dog hugs every time he saw him.
It wasn’t just any Sunday night, it was one of the biggest nights in Super Bowl history. The New England Patriots are about to make unprecedented last-minute comebacks. Mike Diesel was one of the thousands of people watching this exciting game.
While at a party watching the game, during the fourth quarter and Brady just made his first touchdown to initiate the comeback.
He noticed something on Facebook that made him need to leave the party and the game.
Diesel is the founder of Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue. So when he saw that a dog had been hit by a car, no sports game would stop him from going to help. The drive is only 17-minutes away from where he was, but he did it in 13.
The neighbors, on hearing the crash put the dog into a box. Diesel was able to take it from there.
Wrapping him in a blanket and easing him into the car. Speeding off to a veterinary hospital.
Naming the dog Knight Rider, or KR for short. His temperature continued to plummet and he had a shattered and dislocated leg. But he still managed to be a graceful patient although he did not have much life left in him.
Although Diesel did not manage to see the New England Patriots make a historic comeback.
He was there to see KR make his own historic comebacks after two surgeries. Which is much more rewarding.
By building a special enclosure, which let him sleep alongside KR, Diesel could help him recover, which took two weeks.
And Diesel was there every step of the way, taking KR to hydrotherapy twice a week.
Besides the staples and steel bolts keeping KR together, the more important glue is regular visits by his hero.
While at his temporary foster home, he would leap into Diesel’s arms and give him dog hugs every time he would visit.
Despite the tender muscles and bones. To win the heart of a lost dog is much more satisfying than seeing any historic Super Bowl triumph. And he now gets to lift the most precious trophy anyone can lift: the endless love from an animal, who will never forget his saving grace.
KR made a full recovery and has been adopted. But still gives dog hugs to Diesel every time he sees him.
