Shona Macleod, a dog lover, was devastated when her beloved pet was stolen.
Roxie, a French bulldog, was stolen from outside Shona Macleod’s house in March 2017. At that time, she was only 18 weeks old.
Shona, a dog lover, was left upset by the theft of her beloved pet and turned to the public for help. But, unfortunately, many years passed with no news of her pet.
So she came to terms with the fact that she would never see her adoring pup again.
A municipal official then showed up at Shona’s front door with Roxie on a leash earlier this month.
On the 30th of October – her 5th birthday – the fully grown puppy was discovered strolling alone through a neighborhood park and was identified thanks to her microchip.
“When I saw the council worker with a dog at the door, I believed it was my new dog that had fled from the garden.” Mrs. Macleod told BBC Cumbria.
“When I realized it was Roxie, I burst into tears. It’s as though she hasn’t been away for a long time. She isn’t timid, so even if she hasn’t been properly cared for, I don’t believe she has been mistreated.”
Roxie has returned to her family in Carlisle, Cumbria, and is settling back in.
Shona bought a fellow French bulldog, Bear, earlier this year. The affectionate canine enjoys nothing more than playing with him.
In the 4 years and eight months since her disappearance, the Macleod family has grown to include two additional children.
“Bear is much bigger but pretty dopey and simply loves Roxie. They’re both getting along so nicely,” Shona added.
Shona is also asking dog owners to microchip their pets to be reunited with their canine companions if they are lost or stolen.
Microchips provide the animal with a unique code that can be scanned and linked to the owner’s contact information.
According to Carlisle City Council spokesperson, “This case demonstrates how beneficial it is to get your dog microchipped and to maintain the details up to date. We were able to scan the microchip and receive the registered details of the person who reported her stolen when our stray dog service located her.”
