Who would have thought that 1,000 miles away and seven years later, they would reunite with their stolen dog?
Sgt. Pepper’s owner had hoped that one day she would find her dog, but the chances were slim.
The Yorkie-mix, a.k.a Sgt. Pepper went missing from his home in Florida in 2014 when he was six years old.
Later, his owner came across a ‘found dog’ ad on Craigslist, and discovered that someone already claimed and received her stolen dog.
Unfortunately, they weren’t able to locate him.
The owner immediately reported the stolen dog to the local police station and updated his microchip status to ‘stolen.’
Throughout the years, Sgt. Pepper’s owner did not give up and continued to update his microchip’s status with new addresses and phone numbers as the years passed by.
She truly hoped and believed that one day Sgt. Pepper would return home safe and sound.
One day, the Eaton County Animal Control in Charlotte, Michigan, got news about a stray dog roaming on the streets. The good cop brought the Yorkie mix to the shelter, where he was scanned for a microchip.
To their surprise, the dog was registered to a woman in Florida, 1000 miles away.
His owner took the next flight and flew to Michigan to reunite with her stolen dog from 7 years ago. The now 13-year-old Yorkie recognized his owner’s face, and the two were elated upon seeing each other.
The lead animal control officer for Eaton County Animal Control, Rebecca Neal, says, “The moral of this story is if you have your pet microchipped, hope is always still on the table.”
Thank you Eaton County Animal Control for the amazing story. Thanks to 13 On Your Side for the video!
