It takes courage and determination to be a hero. And this is what Jessie, the rescue dog who lives in Johannesburg, South Africa, has shown the world.
Jessie rescued her dog friend, a 13-year-old Toy Pom named Chucky, from drowning in their family’s pool. Although being an incredibly difficult task, she spent over half an hour trying to pull Chucky out to safety.
Coming Home To A Wet Dog
After coming home one day, Byron and Melissa noticed that Chucky was wet. Seeming unusual, they decided to check the footage on their security camera. It was a huge shock for them to see that Chucky had fallen into the pool.
In the video, Chucky is walking close to the edge of the pool. He misses a step and accidentally falls in.
Chucky does know how to swim and knows the steps of the pool. But because he had been caught by surprise, he panicked. As a result, he was not going to get out of this by himself.
And Then Jessie, A Rescue Dog, Becomes A Hero
When Jessie saw Chucky was in danger, she faced her fear of water and got close to the edge of the pool to help. Getting a grip on Chucky was not easy. After struggling for over 30 minutes, Jessie manages to pull Chucky out with her teeth.
Being adopted from there, the Boksburg SPCA felt Honored to hear of Jessie’s bravery.
To show their appreciation of Jessie, the family set up a fundraiser for the Boksburg SPCA.
Because Jessie did not give up on her friend, she showed us that it takes courage and determination to be a hero. This video also proves that animals feel compassion and empathy for others, something which many do not believe in.
The family will install a pool cover to prevent this from happening again.
Thank you, Jessie, for showing us what a rescue dog is capable of!
