It had to be destiny! An Amazon delivery driver took the wrong route, which brought him to a puppy in critical condition.
In his hometown of Woburn, Massachusetts, John Cassabria was delivering Amazon items when he took the wrong street. When he came to a halt in his van to examine the GPS more closely, a disturbance from a nearby house drew his attention.
The Amazon Driver told CNN, “I’ve never heard anything like it in my life. I heard it above my van’s reversing beep.”
The 24-year-old delivery man got out of his van and headed over to investigate the sounds of distress coming from within a fenced-in backyard.
As soon as he glanced over the fence, he leaped into action.
Luka, a fourteen-year-old Husky, was swimming in his family’s backyard pool, but his head barely above the water.
To save him, Cassabria scaled the barrier and dove into the pool!
“With everything on the wallet, phone and wristwatch, I went into the pool,” he recalled. “All I could think about at the time was the dog.” Cassabria then called the Woburn Police Department after pulling Luka to safety.
Moreover, Luka’s owners had just left town for a weekend getaway, and the pet sitter they had hired had yet to arrive. Luka had somehow fallen into the pool after exiting the doggy door. This is unusual as he had done this without issue for the previous 14 years.
According to his owner Julie Caldwell, Luka would not have survived much longer if it hadn’t been for Cassabria’s fast action.
At the senior age of 14 years old, his back legs would be weak. In addition, he is not a swimmer.
“It just happened that I was in the right place at the right moment. If I had to, I’d repeat the same behaviors over and over,” Cassabria remarked.
Cassabria sat with Luka for an hour and a half before returning to his delivery route.
