Many of us are advocates and supporters of dog adoption. We want to see more dogs getting out of shelters with their new parents than seeing them being bought from breeders or stores.
This frees up much-needed space in already congested shelters and provides numerous dogs a second opportunity at having loving homes. However, some adopted dogs find it difficult to adjust to their new life and are subsequently returned.
This seems to be Bentley’s story. The majority of his life was spent in an animal shelter.
He was adopted four times, but each time he was returned. Bentley was seen to be violent, destructive, and distrustful of humans and all of his adoptive new parents lacked the patience to assist him.
Bentley’s life was about to change, though, when a woman named KaTarra Taylor decided to give him another shot. It was actually KaTarra’s parents who adopted Bentley and they were not happy with how Bentley behaved in his new home.
His new parents were already thinking about taking him back to the shelter but KaTarra could not bear to return him.
KaTarra lived in a studio apartment and she witnessed how disruptive and hostile Bentley was. She knew it was going to be hard work but she chose to take Bentley in. She had to be patient with him while she trained him. KaTarra spent time teaching Bentley to walk on a leash, and she also began to earn his trust.
When KaTarra needed to move to a new home, she was unable to find an apartment in the city that would allow Bentley. Thus, she opted to purchase a townhouse.
Bentley had never had his own yard and had only experienced what grass was when his new parents brought him to the park.
KaTarra’s boyfriend felt like he needed to help so he decided to surprise Bentley by constructing a yard for him.
After changing the concrete patio into a grassy yard, they allowed Bentley outside to see his reaction.
Bentley was so ecstatic that he ran to the lawn and laid down immediately.
From that moment on, he always looked forward to KaTarra unlocking the door to let him out in the yard. He really enjoys spending time on the grass.

Coming to the shelter together, Hank and Gigi, were put into the same kennel as they had such a strong family bond. And instead of sleeping in their own beds, they snuggled together in one bed. Thankfully they won’t have to worry about being apart as they have been adopted together.
