Preston, a Boxer from Nashville, Tennessee, was out trick-or-treating with a group of kids one gloomy Halloween night many years ago.
When a speeding automobile approached, one of the boys dropped a piece of candy in the road and was stooping to pick it up.
Preston saved the child’s life by knocking him out of the way of the car. But the vehicle hit Preston as well.
According to the book Ghost Dogs of the South, several children witnessed the whole affair. Because Preston was her grandmother’s dog, Cindy, a young girl, and two of her pals dashed home to notify her parents.
She explained that Preston had escorted her and her pals from Cindy’s grandmother’s house and saved the small boy’s life.
On the other hand, Cindy’s mother was astounded by the children’s account.
She said, “I assumed [your grandma] might have informed you, dear. She didn’t want to ruin your Halloween, I’m sure. Unfortunately, Preston was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away at the vet’s office the day before yesterday.”
Since that night, whenever residents of Bellmont Hillsboro go trick or treating if any child wanders too close to the street. They have a guardian angel watching over them. However, Preston, the boxer is said to have given them a gentle bump, moving them back to the safety of the pavement.
