Chief, a golden retriever, is almost a year old but loves to play and have fun like a puppy.
Whitely Hester, his hooman shared, “He is a very mischievous puppy, who makes all kinds of trouble. He especially loves chewing up our rugs.”
The golden retriever was recently neutered and was advised to wear a cone for two weeks. Chief made sure he protested and showed his displeasure to the fullest.
He chewed the cone, tore it apart with success, and couldn’t wait to get rid of the plastic for good.
Hester shared, “He had to wear it for two weeks but struggled to make it that long. On the first day, he was frustrated. In fact, he refused to get in the car or even walk at first if he had it on.”
Chief finally made it through the two weeks and could be set free from the cone that was keeping him from being his mischievous self.
A day later, Hester was surprised to see the golden retriever wearing his cone voluntarily.
@whitley_i_guess He did in fact, put it on himself. Hated it so much that he tore it to pieces, but now it’s an accessory?? #fyp #fypシ #puppy #goldenretriever ♬ original sound – Whitley
At first, she was shocked but knew she had to get to its root. The answer, however, was hilarious.
“I was so surprised because I knew that my mom had taken it off of him that morning,” Hester said. “I went to ask why he was wearing it again, and she replied, ‘He’s wearing his cone?’ in a shocked voice.”
It turned out, that Chief had decided to put the cone back himself. Even though he hated wearing it initially, he now seemed to enjoy it. Perhaps, because this time it was on his terms.
The golden retriever was a complete goofball with the cone around his neck. He rolled around, playing, chewing, and having the best time.

We’re guessing he was happy that he was not forced to wear the cone and could do it on his own terms.
“I think he felt like he won the battle,” Hester said.
Once Chief was done playing, he decided to take off the cone for good.
Thank you The Dodo for the story. Thank you Whitley Hester for the video!
