A loyal dog in South-West China touches the hearts of the world for showing his faith by waiting outside of a train station every day for his owner to come home from work.
A video showing Xiongxiong, meaning little bear in Chinese, going to the train station in Chongqing’s Yuzhong district went viral after people were astounded by his loyalty.
Xiongxiong is popular amongst the locals, who know him and his owner, Mr. Chen. They say this 15-year-old dog behaves very well. Although he does not have a collar or a leash.
When Chen goes to work, Xiongxiong appears at the train station. This is at about 7am or 8am every day. A local resident told the Chongqing Evening News: ‘He will wait at the station – specifically at Exit B – for about 12 hours, sometimes until 8 pm.’
Xiongxiong is so loyal, he will not budge when someone pets or calls him.
He will also not eat anything anyone tries to feed him. He just waits patiently for his owner to come back from work. On the other hand, when he sees his owner, his whole attitude changes.
At this moment, Xiongxiong becomes happy and excited. His whole body shakes and he barks and wags his tail. He hops around his owner. Chen cannot hide his happiness to see his dog after a long day at work.
Chen has had Xiongxiong for about seven or eight years and has been loyal to him every day ever since.
Xiongxiong being happy to see Chen makes Chen happy to see Xiongxiong. Chen admitted that seeing his loyal dog so happy to see him every day makes him less tired after a day’s work.
Being this age, Chen just hopes the relationship will last, but he honestly doesn’t know how long he can carry on.
The video went viral with more than 10 million views. People all over China have even gone and visited this loyal dog, sharing their own selfies and pictures and videos of Xiongxiong.
Consequently, Xiongxiong has been named the ‘modern-day Hachiko’.
He was the famous Akita dog that waited for his owner every day at Tokyo’s Shibuya Station in the 1920s. And after his owner died, Hachiko still went to wait for him for almost 10 years until his own death.
