A German Shepherd who served as a K9 at Andover Police Department in Massachusetts was diagnosed with cancer earlier this month.
Luckily, K-9 Grimm was in good hands. His handler decided to put him to sleep peacefully rather than watching him suffer through the disease.
Before the dog retired, his handler Sgt. Mickey Connor partnered with him for over 10 years. Connor was devastated when he discovered Grimm was diagnosed with cancer.
To help the grieving officer, the police department decided to step in and help him.
The entire police department and the local community came together to show their love for the poor dog diagnosed with cancer.
Together they planned to take the dog on a fun ride across the town of Andover to thank him for his service and show their love.
On January, 19th 2022, Grimm took his last ride around the town, full of love and life. Neighbors and fans lined the streets, holding signs and cheering Grimm for being so strong.
As the crowd walked past Main Street in Andover, the dog diagnosed with cancer stuck his head out and happily watched his supporters cheer him.
Connor and Grimm’s cruiser led police vehicles followed by a cheerful crowd. Both Connor and Grimm could not contain their happiness at the sight and were thankful to all the people who came to say goodbye.
In honor of the K-9, the police said,
“We would also like to thank the citizens of Andover for their outpouring of love and support, this was particularly touching for us, and I know it meant the world to Sergeant Connor. The void left by the unexpected passing of Grimm will be a difficult time for us to deal with, but your support has made this a little easier.”
Grimm had started showing signs of illness days before passing away. The local vet performed some tests and discovered an aggressive form of cancer.
Unfortunately, the cancer had metastasized to the brave dog’s lymph nodes before anything could be done.
Thank you iheartdogs for the moving story. Thank you Melanie Woods Krance for the video!
