As the proverb suggests, you should find a job that relates to your passion, and it will never feel like work. For us dog lovers, writing about doggos or working at a dog shelter should do the trick.
We love to talk about them, we watch the silly things they do on the internet. We love seeing clips of dog rescues and reunion stories.
But have you ever thought about what “jobs” do our puppies really want? Maybe they don’t want to sniff bombs or chase after bad guys all the time.
Fortunately for a handful of doggos in New Zealand, they have been given a job that they surely enjoyed.
No, it’s not about chasing their own tails or destroying furniture, it’s about chasing tennis balls! These colorful and bouncy things are too irresistible for our pups and all dog lovers know this fact.
So, Auckland Savings Bank (ASB) decided to use puppies to collect the balls instead of ball boys and ball girls at a tennis match. They even dubbed them, “The best ball boys in the world,” and we don’t think anyone will have the heart to contest that claim.
They were featured six years ago in a practice match between Venus Williams and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Equipped with cute yellow wrist pads, the doggos were all raring to go.
As ball boys, their job is to collect the tennis balls every time the exchange between the two players comes to an end. While the players got their water breaks, the doggos also got some treats from the chair umpire, to replenish their energy.
But perhaps they had too much energy because some of them tried to play tug of war with the players.
But joking aside, it’s astonishing how these doggos maintained their composure. Sitting on the sidelines while that shiny ball went back and forth, they probably wanted to chase after it, but they didn’t.
Grabbing the ball only when required for them to do. Hopefully, this will be an actual thing in the future during official matches. We strongly believe that doggos are smart enough to carry out this job. But they can make things a bit sloppy at times.
