Meet Loubie, the friendliest golden retriever who loves to hug strangers on the streets of NYE.
Loubie became famous for her warm fuzzy hugs. Her hooman named her after the French designer Christian Louboutin.
If you’re taking a stroll and come across Loubie in NYE, don’t be surprised when the golden girl rushes to you for a hug.
The golden retriever and her hooman Cesar, a Spanish translator for a local hospital, reside in New York City. They love taking long walks together.
Cesar says he never taught Loubie to hug strangers. She is a really loving dog and likes all the affection she can get.
Loubie only started giving hugs recently. Before that, the golden retriever loved holding hands. It all started around Valentine’s Day in 2014, right after Cesar had a breakup.
“She started sitting up and grabbing my hands with both of her paws and then crossing the other paw over her paw,” Cesar said. “I remember joking with my friends, ‘At least I have someone to hold hands with during Valentine’s.’”
He adds, “From then on, every walk, she wanted to hold hands. She would just sit up and cross her paw over the other and look around like a lady. People passing by were like, ‘Oh my god, she’s so cute.’”
A few years later, Loubie adopted a new way of showing her affection – with hugs.
“Instead of asking me to do the holding hands thing, she just sat up, very close to my legs, and she’d wrap her legs around my knees. I thought, ‘This is weird. What’s going on?’ But I let her do it.”
Loubie continued to hug strangers on the streets and anyone she came across.
“She gets a very good grip, depending on where I’m standing,” Cesar says. “I have to make sure that I’m keeping well-balanced.”
