Tamale is a blind and deaf rescue dog. He looks forward to spending time with his favorite person every day – his mom. But because of his disability, he uses his only sense to find her. So he sniffs his way to her every day.
In an interview, Kayleigh Otsot, Tamale’s mom, shared, “He always gets super excited when I get home from work and will sniff around the house till he finds me.”
He also does this with other people who come into the house. He is a people person.
The rescue dog is a double merle Australian shepherd mix who was born deaf and blind. So he sniffs.
Due to his disability, he has learned to locate things and places by memory and smell, especially the local candy shop.
Tamale gets his pup a small cup of whipped cream from the candy shop, served by his favorite employees. However, sniffing for his mom takes more than just following his memory.

Otstot took in the rescue dog when he was just four months old. He is now three years old and does everything a normal dog does.
He loves swimming, taking long walks with his mom, and playing with his little brother, Kiwi.
Otstot added, “Having Tamale has changed my life. He has made me so much more outgoing because I love getting him out of the house to be more confident and social.”
A lot of people think having a special needs dog would slow you down or slow the dog down. But this is not the case with Tamale. Some people would never guess he was blind or deaf because of how well he gets around and how confident he is.
