Dogs are the most loving, gentle, and affectionate creatures. They excel as service dogs because it’s natural for them to help humans. However, did you know that canines also do well as a guide dog for other dogs?
What’s impressive is that you don’t need to train your pup to help another furry friend because assisting others is already their innate quality. They can teach other dogs to face their fears, to become potty trained, or to do complicated tasks such as going down the stairs.
Canines learn through imitating behaviors, and it works well when they have special needs, particularly blindness. Some puppies go blind because of glaucoma, retinal degeneration, or cataracts. There are some canine breeds that are more susceptible to becoming blind.
In a viral video online, you’ll see two lovable dogs going down the stairs. A senior blind dog learns to walk down the stairs, thanks to a loving companion with good eyesight who teaches him the skill.
In the video, the guide dog stays close to the senior dog to prevent him from falling. It’s also essential that he’s secure on both sides, so he stands between his large friend and a wall.
The large dog takes the first step so that his senior friend can do the same thing confidently. He also makes sure to encourage his friend by giving him sweet kisses.
Later on, he took a few steps away from the senior dog so that he can conquer the last two steps on his own. The large dog wants to assure his buddy that he will never get hurt even if he falls.
Eventually, the blind pup’s able to take the stairs on his own. That’s all because his sighted friend patiently taught him to face his fears.
It’s such a great feeling that our beloved pooch shows compassion, selflessness, and unconditional love even with other animals. They melt our hearts and inspire us in many ways.
