It was probably just another snowy winter’s day in a Murfreesboro, Tennessee household, where two carefree dogs were chasing each other in the snow and having a good time. Suddenly, while running around the swimming pool, one dog falls in.
Sid’s owner, Jennie Tatum, who was watching nearby, saw her baby break through the ice and into the pool. She did not hesitate to run around the pool and jump into the freezing cold water to look for Sid.
Breaking through the 2-inch ice she frantically searched for him. Getting to the other side of the pool, she had no luck. She kept focus and did not panic. She could not feel the cold with the adrenaline rushing through her body, she just had to find Sid, whose time is running out.
Sid’s brother, Olaf, meanwhile nervously looked on, knowing that Sid was in deep trouble. He tried to look for Sid in the pool, but could not see him.
All Olaf could do was look at Jennie and look at the pool. But he did not give up on Jennie, he believed she would find Sid.
She jumped out where they both entered hoping to get more of an ariel viewpoint of where her now freezing puppy might be. As soon as she spotted him, she jumped back into the pool.
And picked him up above the water. Sid, a 50-pound pit bull, was in the water for more than a minute and now unconscious.
Jennie lay Sid down onto the snow and Olaf came to check on his brother, but still knew something was wrong. He gave Jennie all the support he could give.
Jennie’s first priority was to get him into the house to get him warm. She made a call to her neighbor and vet, April Smith, and they rushed Sid to the hospital. April had to give Sid oxygen to revive him but he was alive! Sid probably would not have lasted another second in the freezing water.
Jennie explains later that she did not cover the pool for the winter because they use the pool year-round.
Only that the pools heating system broke the previous week and could not be fixed before the storm came. She was surprised as her dog falls into the frozen pool and did what every mother would do to save their child.
Sid is currently doing well and in high spirit, although still does not go near the pool. You can keep up with Sid and see how he is doing here.
