When Chuck Rubin, an expert dog groomer, was growing up, he lived on a farm that was filled with various animals. Aside from their dogs and cats, he would play with their horses, donkeys, chickens, and alpacas. He helped his parents feed and care for them as a young child. This cultivated his love for animals.
His experiences on their farm spurred him to become a dog groomer. He started his own grooming business in Los Angeles, and two decades later, it has become a popular destination for the area’s pet owners.
Volunteer work
During all those years, he wasn’t just a business owner. Chuck was, and still is, a passionate dog lover that dedicates a lot of time going to various shelters and providing his services for free. It was all a labor of love.
Chuck would pick out dogs from their kennels and groom them one after another. He would start by cleaning them and giving the dogs a thorough bath. The kind man would then professionally groom them.
According to him, the dogs feel better after doing his work on them. Fur matting is very painful, and removing them eases the animal’s discomfort. The time he has spent with the poor pooches also makes them feel loved. Human interaction is very crucial.
But then, Chuck and the shelter staff noticed that the adoption rate started to increase after the dogs got groomed. After the shelter dogs got cleaned up, it only took a matter of days, sometimes even just several hours, for them to get adopted.
Bigger scope
Chuck founded his non-profit group named Hollywood Rescue Grooming. This way, they could get more volunteers and sponsors so that more dogs could avail their services. It is important to note that appearance is the first thing considered when people pick out their pets. The more dogs they groom, the better the shelter’s turnover will be.
The foundation now has a growing number of volunteers, and more sponsors are now funding their endeavor. They have also expanded their volunteer work nationwide. Thanks to people like Chuck, and his volunteers, these rescue dogs are getting a better chance of finding a good life.
