Whiskey’s owner was faced with a difficult decision. After losing her job, she could no longer afford to feed Whiskey. Feeling devastated, she made the difficult decision to give him up at her local animal shelter.
As she handed him over to the SPCA Whiskey clung onto her so tightly, begging not to let him go. Being together for 10 loving years, they had a strong bond.
Seeing the love between these two, the Garden Route SPCA refused to separate them.
Instead, they pleaded his case to the community via social media and asked for help to keep Whiskey with his owner.
The reaction to the social media post left Whiskey’s owner joyfully overwhelmed. Donations came flooding in with hundreds of people making donations.
Whiskey spent just a few days at the animal shelter for a veterinary check-up.
As a result of all the donations, there was enough money for him to be sterilized as well.
They reunited Whiskey with his owner. Being overjoyed, he just hugged her so tightly.
When he got home he then received new bedding as well!
Checking out his new kennel, donated by Knysna Animal Welfare Society, Whiskey went from having nothing to being comfortable very quickly. All thanks to the loving and generous community.
This story has truly touched everybody’s hearts. Being overjoyed, Whiskey’s owner could not stop thanking everyone for their generosity.
Thanks to the local animal shelter (Garden Route SPCA), and the hundreds of donors, Whiskey gets to stay in his loving home with his best friend.
There are so many dogs like Whiskey who need the same assistance. Unfortunately, in South Africa, a large number of people have lost their jobs leaving them with difficult decisions to give up their animals.
Thanks to the Garden Route SPCA for helping not just Whiskey but so many dogs like him daily.
Thanks to our friends over at The Garden Route SPCA for sharing their stories and photos. If you wish to help dogs in need like Whiskey, you can visit The Garden Route SPCA’s website to donate. You can also follow their Facebook page here.
