Peanut, a 2-year-old puppy, came to the animal shelter with broken legs, ribs, and a belly full of carpet. She was placed into a loving home by the animal shelter. In only a year, the dog went from rescued to rescuer.
Maybe it was this heartbreaking background that gave her the sixth sense she needed to become a hero.
Peanut, a medium-sized mixed-breed, began barking wildly while inside her Escanaba, Michigan, home on Friday morning.
The shy puppy’s behavior was obviously out of the ordinary.
Peanut hysterically jumped and barked restlessly, running up and down the steps. It was as if she wanted to alert them about an emergency.
Peanut then went to get her human, who was working on some tasks in the garage and held him from his shirt to make him follow her.
The man could hear her rushing around upstairs but could not figure out why.
He instinctively thought that Peanut’s unusual behavior must be because she wanted him to give her attention to an unusual event. He was right.
The man opened up for her to go out. She then dashed towards the field behind their house at full speed.
He pursued her and was surprised after seeing a naked, trembling 3-year-old kid curled up in a ball. He snatched her up, wrapped her in his sweatshirt, and carried her inside.
Thanks to Peanut, who saved the little soul from the severe cold weather that could have ended her life.
The man reported the event to the concerned authorities. “By the time the ambulance and police arrived, the small girl could only say one thing — ‘doggie,” the dog’s owner said in a letter to the Delta Animal Shelter.
The family adopted Peanut from Delta Animal Shelter in April. She continued, “A small girl’s life was saved thanks to Peanut. She’s been a blessing to us and now to others.”
Authorities in the Delta County police in Michigan praised her for saving the life of a darling little princess who would have perished if Peanut hadn’t been there.
The police were able to remove the girl and her brother from their abusive house. They are now in a safer place away from their abuser. Just as Peanut is away from her abuser.
The story is yet another proof of the worthy sixth sense of dogs and their incredible warmth towards human beings, especially the kids. Peanut became a darling herself in the neighborhood, and the little princess she saved will be hugging her for gratitude once she grows up.
