In Brewster, New York, a service dog is hailed a hero after saving his owner from a bus. Audrey Stone was strolling with her guide dog when a small bus failed to stop in front of them.
When the service dog noticed the bus was not slowing down, he pulled his partner out of the way and absorbed most of the collision. Both of them were injured.
Figo was adamant about being by his owner’s side. He hobbled over with his damaged paw to be with Stone while the medics worked on her.
Audrey Stone is legally blind and was not present when the incident occurred, but she heard about it from others that the dog jumped in front of the bus to protect Stone.
People all across the world gave him cards and toys while he was recovering from surgery and working with his trainers so he could return to duty.
Both he and Stone required time to heal from their injuries before they could go for walks again. Finally, after several months gone, Figo returned home to his owner, fully recovered, and was greeted as a hero.
Figo received the Service Dog of the Year Award from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
But, on the other hand, the dog was not quite as pleased with all the accolades as he was to see his owner. So as he strolled up the driveway to greet Stone, Figo’s tail was wagging furiously. He’s finally back in his hometown, and he couldn’t be happier.
This is only one of the countless stories that demonstrate our pets’ unwavering commitment to us. They appear to have a spontaneous willingness to protect us from harm at any time, regardless of their own safety.
