A rescue organization received a text message one day about a small dog found in a ditch. The small brown canine was wearing a diaper and was unable to move. Fearing the dog was injured, the group immediately sent a rescue team.
Their worst fears were confirmed once they got there.
One of the rescuers wrapped the pooch in a blanket and took her out of the ditch. That is when they saw her injured legs. Both of her rear limbs were broken, and they were already decomposing.
The rescuers rushed her to an emergency vet as the dog winced in pain every time they moved her.
Life-saving surgery
Vets at the clinic said that infections were already setting in on the dog’s wounds. It already gave off a horrifying stench. If she wasn’t treated right away, there was a good chance that her small and weak body couldn’t fight off the infection, and she would perish.
And even if she was given the life-saving surgery she needed, the dog wouldn’t be able to use her legs ever again.
The rescue organization decided to let her have the operation. Even though it was costly, saving the dog’s life was their priority.
Happy dog
The dog, named Cookie, had a successful surgery. For weeks, she recuperated in the clinic and was constantly observed by the medical staff. All the while, the rescue organization was looking for a family willing to adopt a dog with special needs.
Luckily, even though Cookie was still in the clinic, a family reached out and expressed their desire to make the pooch a part of their family. When she was finally released, the dog went to her new home.
According to the Cookie’s new owners, the pooch didn’t take long to show her loving side. She was like a puppy, constantly being active, despite her limitations. She was a happy dog and frequently asked for snuggles and belly rubs.
