An irritable puppy is never a pleasant sight, but Skipper, a golden retriever agitation, may have rescued his family from a burning house on this occasion.
Skipper, a Golden Retriever, was reluctant to settle down in his house in Charlotte County, Fla., around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 10.
Evonne Pugh initially assumed the 6-month-old puppy was making strange noises because she had family members visiting. She couldn’t sleep and gazed out the window.
Pugh added, “I got up and just slid the blinds a little and saw my entire grill area engulfed in flames.”
She was able to swiftly get everyone out of the house and call for help from firefighters, who could put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the house.
She remembered using the grill the night before and believed one of the embers was still burning.
Her grill was destroyed in the fire, and the adjacent exterior wall was blackened. “I don’t know when I would’ve known if Skipper hadn’t notified me,” Pugh told WINK. “He’s a hero, and we’re all happy for his presence.”
We’re not sure how Skipper realized something was off, but our dogs have extremely sensitive ears and noses. So he could have smelled or heard the small fire before the humans in the house.
But we do know he’s a hero who rescued his family and deserves all the treats he can get his paws on.
