Our dogs love toys, but shopping for a picky dog can be a challenge. The bottom of your toy bin is full of idle toys. And if you have a hungry dog, these toys may be torn up around the house in only a few moments.
Therefore, we don’t want to always rush out the moment your pup gets bored or rip the toys apart. But they need entertainment and exercise.
Here is an easy and simple DIY trick to create fun for your pup without dipping into your wallet or going to the pet store. You only need a towel and some food.
To see for yourself how fun this game can be with a demonstration from this awesome dog Gus(@gusthe_bulldog):
Lay a towel out on the floor and scatter your dog’s dry food on top. Spread out the pellets.
Your hungry dog may enjoy finding his kibble all at once, but spreading it around will make the game last longer.
Fold or roll the towel with the food inside. The tighter you roll or fold, the more you increase the difficulty of the game for your dog.
Once you roll the food up within the towel, let the hungry games begin! Easy as pie, right?
According to towel tipster Lucas, how long it takes your dog to collect all the food depends on how you fold the towel, how experienced he is, and how hungry he might be.
If they clean up your towel after only a few moments, try twisting/folding it up more tightly. Gus tries this trick for the first time in this adorable video. What a patient player he is! I love it!
Some notes:
Make sure you supervise your dog at all times – especially if your hungry dog enjoys the taste of the towel himself. Your dog can even swallow toys meant for chewing.
These can end up stuck in their mouths. Supervise your dog in order to prevent choking or eating inedible items.
We recommend you use Kibble for this game. It is true that treats can motivate your dog, but too many treats can result in weight gain.
Dogs suffering from obesity can suffer from a great deal of pain and discomfort. Feeding fresh food is an alternative to kibble if you intend to refrain from it.

Of course, you shouldn’t use wet food for obvious reasons. We are talking about a towel here.
If you have a breed of dog that is prone to gas (like Gus!), or a pup that is a voracious eater, this might be a good way to get him to slow down.
A pup who is a voracious eater or prone to gas might benefit from this method as it slows them down.
A slow eater will take in less air while eating and will have fewer stomach problems. That also means less farting!
This kind of puzzle game keeps your dog’s mind stimulated. This trick is especially useful if you are stuck indoors and your dog is bored with all the toys you have already given him. His mind and nose will be pampered during those times he’s dying for a walk around the block.
Give this trick a try if your dog digs or burrows, typical of terriers and Doxies. The chance to paw their way to their prize is sure to delight them!
