Leslie Sacks has a heart for lost and helpless animals and adopts all sorts of animals in need. She wants to give these animals the best life and care. At present, she has five senior dogs, three goats, two sugar gliders, two Chilean squirrels, and several cats living with her.
Leslie Sacks wanted to add up more animals in need to her growing family. She was on the hunt for adopting dogs that are most neglected in shelters. One day, she went to Asheville Humane Society (AHS) in North Carolina to look for two dogs that had been residing there the longest and had special needs.
Without batting an eyelash, she adopts those dogs to take home right there and then. The shelter staff immediately guided Leslie to Sam and Brutus.
Sam, a senior dog, came to AHS after her previous owner got sick. Apart from being old, Sam had some health concerns, like a thyroid problem and a skin condition. Her special needs made her less adoptable because she required medication and a special diet.
Brutus, a 13-year-old brown dog, was surrendered by his previous family. They asked the shelter staff to put him to sleep. The vet who checked on him said that euthanasia was not needed because he still had plenty of energy.
Although, he had a place in a foster program. But sadly, due to his health problems and severe separation anxiety, his foster family couldn’t handle him.
Leslie didn’t ask further questions about Sam and Brutus. Of course, she immediately signed up the adoption papers and loaded them in her car. The shelter staff was grateful for Leslie’s kind gesture that they shed tears during the dogs’ send-off. They knew Leslie’s family would take care of Sam and Brutus.

Consequently, a week after she adopted Sam and Brutus, Leslie went back to AHS and adopts another dog! She brought home Lily, a 13-year-old Schnauzer mix to join Leslie’s growing dog family!
Thank you, Leslie, for giving these dogs the best remaining years of their lives!
