Darrel, the rescue dog, is a proud hockey-loving dog who knows how to have a good time. After hitting his first goal, the expression on his face is undefeatable, followed by a celebration.
In an interview, Hailey Adair, Darrel’s mom, shared, “He is always eager to learn new tricks and thinks outside of the box. Sometimes he’s a little too smart for his own good!”
The 3-year-old hockey-loving dog has many tricks rolled up on his sleeve. Some of his tricks include skateboarding, turning lights off, retrieving his hooman’s credit card, and opening doors.
The hockey-loving dog loves putting his puck ball into the goal with a single shot.
Seeing his love for hockey, his mom assembled a complete hockey setup for him to play and make history. This includes a net, a cup to shoot the puck into, and stuffed animals.
Adair added, “Every afternoon, I ask if he wants to play hockey. If he takes the stick, we play. Some days, he is in the mood for something else. He calls the shots — literally.”
Here’s a video of Darrel scoring a goal and celebrating:
“When all of us were sent home due to quarantine, he gave me a focus; someone to care for and someone to bond through training,” Adair said.
She started working on his hockey skills to see what he would do with the stick.
And within a few days, he was hitting the ball and smiling from ear to ear!
While hockey is just one of the games Darrel loves playing, the sport has strengthened the bond between Adair and the doggo.
The hockey-loving dog also participates in his mom’s work events to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association.
She shared, “Darrel is a one-of-a-kind dog. He loves all animals, including his guinea pig brothers and other dogs. But [he] especially loves people. He’s the kind of dog that lights up the room as soon as he walks in.”
