Teddy was found with nearly 100 BB pellets in his body when veterinary staff first rescued him in central Florida. They’re still there, but life has improved dramatically for this worthy puppy when a kind foster home has adopted him.
Teddy was rescued for the first time on July 27 by Seminole County Animal Services in Florida. They didn’t want to put him up for adoption just yet because they were afraid that someone would turn him into an outside dog, leading to his present condition.
Even so, they knew who to contact for assistance.
Teddy was picked up later that day by Rebecca Lynch, president of Poodle & Pooch Rescue in Orlando, Florida.
Unfortunately, he could not get into the car due to his health, so she lifted the 72-pound dog into the vehicle alone.
Lynch says, “From the moment I lifted him up, he just kissed my face all over.” He was stumbling and moving slowly, which the workers at Poodles and Pooch noted.
They assumed he had arthritis and took a radiograph, revealing several pellets of birdshot under his skin. “They were just strewn all over his body,” Lynch adds.
His legs and head were encrusted with them. They have no way of knowing if the pellets were thrown by “cruel children or perhaps a mentally sick adult.”
But, in any case, they’re positive that someone abused him on multiple occasions.
“Many animals are injured by pellets, whether from BBs or Birdshot, as they arrive at Poodle & Pooch shelter,” Lynch said. “The personnel will remove the pellets if they are causing infection, pain, or causing significant trouble.”
Teddy’s remained there long enough that he didn’t have any open wounds. Indicating, however, that he wasn’t in immediate danger.
Thankfully, his bad luck has passed. Last week, a wonderful foster family in Florida adopted Teddy.
He relaxes indoors with his new dog parents, and their two children.
Teddy’s new foster mother told the Poodle and Pooch staff that he can walk upstairs to lie with them in the bedroom. But going downstairs is difficult due to his arthritis.
Teddy is doing well in his new home, but hoping someone in Florida adopts him soon.
They’re currently awaiting the results of his recent biopsy. So they can ensure that his new family is fully informed of any medical problems moving forward.
