If you go chasing geese, you can end up in a frigid scenario.
The Lysander Fire Department in New York received a report on Thursday about an inquisitive canine that broke away from its owner and chased geese out onto the frozen Seneca River.
Unfortunately, after pawing nearly 30 yards out onto the freezing river, the Shih Tzu became stranded when its leash, which was still linked to the pet’s collar, became entangled on the ice.
Local sheriff’s deputies and firefighters came after they got the call about the stranded dog.
After arrival, a Plainville Fire Department rescue crew used Jordan Fire Department-provided specialized ice rescue equipment to save the dog.
Firefighters in ice rescue gear crawled out onto the ice until they reached the dog. Then they released its leash and escorted him back to land.
On Facebook, the Plainville Fire Department shared photographs from the rescue.
Rescuers on their stomachs are seen moving out to the small grey and white puppy, surrounded by big chunks of ice in the footage.
Kudos to the fire department! This Shih Tzu was rescued because of them and people have shown so much love in their Facebook comment section.
Commenters hailed the fire department for taking the time to save an animal in distress.
“Rescuers, you did a fantastic job! It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a beast (doggie)!!”One of the commenters stated. Another one added, “Thank you to all those who assisted in the rescue of this adorable puppy! But, that is not a simple process.”
