Bandit, a paralyzed dog, was rejected and returned from four foster homes before he found a forever home with a loving family.
Bandit is paralyzed from waist down and requires a wheelchair to carry him around, unlike other dogs.
He was a member of the Gwinnett County Jail Dogs program, where prisoners trained him to walk and settle in his new home.
Bandit’s inability to walk on his own can be difficult – perhaps why most families couldn’t take care of the paralyzed dog and returned him.
However, it all turned around when Bandit’s new owners came to pick him up one day. Darryl Rider fell in love with Bandit when he saw that the paralyzed dog had similar paralysis.
In an interview, Rider said, “If you look at Bandit, he’s me. If you look at his paralysis – waist down – the same thing I have.”
Darryl and his wife, Sue, decided to adopt Bandit and gave him a loving family. “Going through what I went through in my life, life wasn’t easy. You just gotta continue to move forward,” Darryl said. “And what I heard about Bandit, the videos we saw, he has the same mindset I have.”
Darryl’s own paralysis makes him compassionate towards the paralyzed dog, and he wants him to feel safe and loved. The couple also plans to create Bandit’s social media page and share his adventures with the world.
Bandit was excited and happy to be with his new family. A dog with his condition rarely has such high spirits, and we wish Bandit and his new family a life filled with fun, games, and lots of love.
