Groomer Whitney Samuels rescued a matted dog from a picture she saw Olon Facebook while scrolling. A kind family in her neighborhood had rescued the dog from a closed property and was looking for someone to give the dog a forever home.
When Samuels came across the picture of the matted dog, she knew she had to help.
She said in an interview, “I couldn’t just keep scrolling knowing that I could help. So I drove 45 minutes one way to pick her up.”
When Samuels met the matted dog, she discovered the dog was blind and deaf. The matted dog was a senior and had clearly been through a lot. Her condition was deteriorating, and Samuels wanted to help.
She added, “She was a hot mess. There [was] so much matting [and] so many burs and full-sized sticks stuck in her coat! All four of her legs were fused together by her hair!”
Samuels took the dog, whom she named Lucy, to her grooming office and immediately got to work. At first, the poor dog was uncomfortable, but she was in good hands with Samuels.
The groomer gently worked her way through the matted fur and quickly finished the job for the dog’s sake.
She shared, “Grooming her was so emotional. I just wanted to get it done as fast as possible to free her from all of it! Every time my clippers cut through a large portion of her ‘pelt,’ she would just look at me. I remember I kept saying, ‘Almost done, almost done.’ She was so defeated, but was so sweet to me the entire process.”
Once the job was complete, Lucy looked clean and more lightweight. She was a completely different dog.
After the grooming session, Samuels took the dog home till she figured out the next phase. At home, Lucy became all cuddly and fell into a deep sleep, now with all the fur gone.
“After her groom, she slept for hours,” Samuels added. “But after her nap, she was very cuddly! Wanted to sit on our couch and just relax.”
Thank you The Dodo for the story. Thank you Grooms By Whitney for the amazing transformation pictures!
