Meet Mumma Zura, the American Staffy who fosters over 200 puppies and earned the name ‘Mumma’ for her incredible service. Chris and his partner Scott adopted Zura from RSPCA NSW five years ago.
When Zura was only a pup, they realized she needed company. Since the two guys lived in a rent house, they approached RSPCA to foster instead of another adoption.
They say, ‘We weren’t sure how Zura would react, but we thought it was worth a try.’
The American Staffy has natural motherhood instincts and welcomes new dogs in her home.
Chris says, ‘She’s such a natural ‘Mumma’ and welcoming to other dogs. She helps nurture the puppies and teaches them manners, so they grow into well-behaved, happy, and healthy dogs.’
To date, Mumma Zura has fostered over 200 puppies, comprising puppies with behavioral issues, those involved in court cases, paralyzed, or abuse victims. The American Staffy has also fostered four kittens.
Zura has shown her hoomans endless love, companionship, and loyalty over the years. She has also helped give back to the community through fostering.
Many puppies and kittens have healed and gained confidence through the American Staffy and her love.
Chris says, ‘As foster carer, it’s very rewarding to provide home and see the growth and development of each dog. I feel a sense of accomplishment.’
‘In the beginning, it was hard to part with the foster dogs. However, after doing it so often, you quickly realize that it’s just like a job. You’re there to love and care for them temporarily, and then they go back to find their forever homes, and before long, there is a new foster for you to look after.’
Scott and Chris encourage people to foster pets if they are not prepared for a long term commitment. They suggest, ‘It’s a great way to give back. Plus, you’ve got a house full of pets!’
