Never leave anyone behind is the motto of Marine. This includes a puppy that one serviceman, who had a mission in Afghanistan, rescued and connected with during his tour.
Captain Dave had a mission in Afghanistan in an isolated place.
He is expected to return to the United States in 2020. But, because he adores Sox, he can’t contemplate leaving her behind.
Sox was a puppy when he first spotted her, entangled in concertina wire in their camp. He set her free, fed her, and sent her on her way. Sox, on the other hand, had other ideas. Sox began returning to their tent daily after feeling safe around the unit and seeking food and water.
Some of the other men had even witnessed the dog being abused in public.
Sox soon became their constant companion, even accompanying them on several of their operations. Unfortunately, Sox got too far away from the squad on a recent patrol. She was lashed with a stick by a local. Captain Dave realized at that point that he could never leave her to fend for herself.
Captain Dave and his unit’s attachment to the dog they saved is reciprocal, and he now wishes to bring her back to the United States with him when he returns soon. Guardians of Rescue has previously assisted other service troops in completing this goal, and they are looking for public donations to help them do it again.
“Captain Dave’s devotion to Sox is unrivaled, and he believes in the idea of never abandoning her,” says Robert Misseri, president of the animal rescue charity Guardians of Rescue.
“We know we can help Sox return to America and spend the rest of her life with him. But we need aid since it’s costly. We are grateful to be working with the Nowzad shelter in Kabul. Because this puppy would not have an opportunity to come to America if it weren’t for their help.”
Captain Dave adds, “The attachment I have with Sox is something I didn’t expect, but I just can’t leave her behind.”
“I’m worried if I don’t bring her home with me. I’ll always be sorry and wonder what happened to her,” he added. “I’d appreciate any aid folks can provide in assisting me in bringing her home with me.”
It is possible to transport a dog from the Middle East to the United States, but it is expensive and a mission.
Medical care, flights, and other relocation costs are very costly.
Those who want to contribute to Captain Dave’s efforts to return Sox home can donate online.
