In Georgia, lawn care workers discovered an underweight one-year-old Husky on one of the lawns that they were working on. No one knew if she was placed there or if she crawled there. All they knew was that they needed to take her to the shelter because she was unable to stand on her own.
Jennifer Brooks, the director of Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs, learned about the dog and was horrified about the dog’s condition. She was astonished that the dog was still alive, given that she weighed approximately 10 pounds. That weight is even lighter than a cat’s weight.
The staff at the animal shelter began calling her Ferngully and discovered that she was not microchipped. She was eager to eat, but they had to begin with little portions. They also gave her antibiotics and medicines.
It took her several weeks to recuperate, but she gradually regained her strength. Everyone who had been caring for her was thrilled to watch her stand up and take her first steps. They could tell she was grateful by how she greeted them and how her tail wagged.
Although Ferngully had not yet been made available for adoption, the organization received numerous adoption applications. They had to announce that they would no longer be accepting applications since the volume of requests was too great.
Because Ferngully’s first year of life was filled with sorrow, the organization’s employees had to ensure that she was adopted by someone who would love her unconditionally before she could be placed for adoption. They selected a lady named Audrey.
The moment Ferngully and Audrey met, they became fast friends. Audrey could not believe how little she was when she was rescued, so she decided to make sure that Ferngully maintains a normal weight.
When they arrived home, Ferngully and her new fur sister Lula got along nicely. She was thrilled to play with her in the backyard.
Ferngully was friendly. She wanted nothing more than to cuddle and drink up all the attention given to her.
Her painful history is now in the past. She is now thrilled to embark on family adventures. She has such an unquenchable thirst for life that she takes pleasure even in mundane things.
