A goat-herding dog Odin became a hero after staying with a group of goats during last week’s California wildfires.
Roland Handel documented his brave dog’s actions that could only be termed as dramatically unbelievable.
That morning, they could see the start of the flames over the valley. A few minutes later, the fire had grown in size, and the winds had gone crazy.
They had loaded up the dogs and cats, but goat-herding dog Odin, their obstinate and courageous Great Pyrenees, would not leave the goats alone.
The owner did not want to leave Odin but he doubted he could persuade the dog to accompany him.
So he just sat there and stared his master down – and he wasn’t moving. Roland didn’t have time to think about what to do. Odin was adamant about staying, and he proved to be his own entity at the time.
The decision to go was not easy, and Roland broke down in tears as he realized he would be losing his beloved pet.
Later that morning, when everyone had fled the inferno, the owner was psychologically prepared to mourn the death of Odin and his cherished brood of bottle-raised goats.
When the family returned to their land, every structure was in ruins, and several trees were still on fire.
Amazingly, eight goats came racing to greet them and were lavished with loves and licks.
Odin’s fur was scorched, and he was limping.
And he’d taken in numerous deer, who clustered around him for protection and drink from their trough, which was amazingly undamaged and full of pretty clean water.
However, Odin recovered quickly. The hero held firm in the face of adversity, making him even braver than before.
