This year, a guide dog and its owner recently made waves in the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing. Carina Edlinger, a blind Austrian athlete, won two medals in Beijing’s cross country skiing competition.
When the young athlete made her way to the stage, she wanted to thank a very special someone: her guide dog. While she had many people to thank, she especially wanted to thank her dog, Riley.
Riley is a 5-year-old guide dog and has supported Edlinger since he was a pup.
She loves him so much that she wanted to appreciate her guide dog by allowing her to receive the medal on her behalf.
When the medals were brought out to the stage, Riley could not contain his happiness. He began sniffing the medals looking for a treat.

When Edlinger received her awards, she quickly dug into her pocket and pulled a smaller medal for Riley. She put the medal around the dog’s neck and let him have his moment in front of the cameras.
The dog received his medal on the podium, and the crowd cheered in support of the guide dog more than they did for Edlinger.
Before exiting the stage, the duo posed for pictures, and together they showed off their medals. It was a big day for Riley and his hooman. They were delighted to experience such a victory.
Thank you The Dodo for the story. You can follow Edlinger on Instagram.
