Dexter, a disabled dog, learned to walk like a human after being hit by a truck. The Brittany Spaniel survived a deadly accident that almost took his life. However, the brave dog recovered from his injuries and now stands tall, literally.
The six-year-old dog escaped his family’s yard at the age of one in March 2016. As Dexter dashed towards a nearby park, a truck drove into him, causing serious injuries.
The now disabled dog lost his front legs under the truck’s wheels.
His hooman, Tim Pasek, was shocked with horror.
Pasek and his wife, Kentee, rushed the doggo to an animal hospital, an almost 45-minute drive from their mountain town. Tim drove the car while his wife comforted Dexter.
“He was pretty beat up—very beat up. He had his rear to me, and the dog is such a sweetheart that he figured out, on those two back legs, how to turn around because he wanted his head on my lap,” said Kentee in an interview.
The disabled dog did not give up and, after treatment, used his hind legs to stand just like humans. Unfortunately, his front legs had to be amputated to prevent more damage.
For the next two months, the Pasek family had to carry the disabled dog outside for him to use the bathroom.
Strangely, one morning while Dexter still had his surgery cone, Kentee carried him to the lawn. She left the dog to do his business in peace while she went to grab a cup of coffee.
Upon her return, she was surprised to see Dexter, not on the porch but at the top of the stairs. It was a miracle.
“I put him back down in the yard and took out my video because no one would believe me … and I have footage of him walking right up the stairs, looking like a human. He just figured it out.” She said.
