This is the story of the brave 74-year-old, Suzan Marciano, who saved her dog from a deadly alligator attack at Boca Raton Park. Suzan says, “I wasn’t thinking. I did the only thing I could do.”
Suzan was walking her dog, a Golden retriever mix Nalu at Burt Aaronson Park’s lake around 6:30 pm. Suddenly, Nalu jumped into the lake since he loved swimming and splashing.
Suzan removed the dog’s leash and let her play in the water while she watched. While Nalu was having the time of her life, her hooman Marciano spotted a shadow in the lake.
She said, “My heart dropped.” To her surprise, she saw an alligator approaching her innocent dog. The reptile was almost six feet long and had soon grabbed Nalu in its sharp jaws.
The brave woman says, “I wasn’t thinking. I did the only thing I could do. I came down on the alligator with all my weight.”
Suzan threw herself into the lake and onto the alligator’s body. As soon as she jumped the alligator let go of Nalu. The brave woman thought she had scared the alligator enough to disappear in the water, but instead, it bit her hand.
“Providence must have been with me. It was all one big blur. I was in such shock. I didn’t feel any pain.” She reports.
Luckily the duo escaped the deadly attack and rushed to the trail near the lake. Suzan and her dog were shocked and didn’t notice the blood dripping from her hand.
They wanted to go home but a friend convinced her to see the doctor.
Both Suzan and Nula are safe today. “I hardly went anywhere for two weeks afterward. I was in such a traumatic state. Every couple of hours, I was breaking into tears for no apparent reason. I was still seeing the shadow with two eyes looking up from out of the water. That image kept coming back to me.”
