This could very well be your favorite video of the week if you have a weakness for those videos in which a blind dog sees their loved ones for the first time.
Duffy, a rescue Irish Terrier, lost his sight due to diabetes.
Eventually, Duffy’s diabetes stabilized after his family put him on medication, and he qualified for surgery to restore his sight.

I Have A Diabetic Dog Who Has Gone Blind. How Can I Help Him/Her?
For diabetic dogs that have gone blind, reducing their risk of further organ damage by controlling their diabetes is crucial.
The control of diabetics can be impacted by additional factors, even if the dogs have generally been stable for some time, such as infection or hormonal changes.
If your dog has reduced or no vision, they are still capable of remembering a familiar environment, such as your home.
Make sure not to arrange furniture or place obstacles in their paths, such as bags, in order to reduce the risk of them bumping into something.
Take care to remove any hazards, such as sharp objects.
To give your blind dog a tactile clue of when to jump up and down, try placing a mat with a different texture near every step in the house.
Make sure their food and water are in the same place and give them a sound cue, such as ringing a bell, when it’s time to feed them.
A dog who loses its sight may lose confidence as well as become anxious and clingy.
They may feel more vulnerable, which may make them more likely to act in defense. Using calm language can reassure your dog, and doing so will prevent startling him before you touch him.
Always keep your dog on a lead and stick to a few familiar routes when out and about. You can teach them new commands to help avoid obstacles, such as ‘left’, ‘right’, ‘down’, and ‘up’.
In addition, you can warn them verbally that someone is near, such as saying, “someone’s here”.
