If you were to write a love letter to your dog, what would you say?
It is difficult to put your emotions into words and have them sound so perfect. Some talented people hit the nail on the head when it comes to expressing how we feel about our dogs.
Aivy was rescued from the streets of Romania and despite what others thought, Leena Henningsen set her heart on adopting Aivy from the animal rescue shelter.
Having a rough start to life, Leena was not sure how Aivy would behave. However, Aivy seemed to know she had a bright future from the start.
“I knew that if I was going to have a dog that it had to be you.”
It was as though Aivy heard those words as he leaped into Leena’s arms the moment they met. It is the best feeling to meet someone for the first time and have it feel like you have known each other forever.
Leena explains that many dogs serve a purpose to their owners, for example, for protection or for hunting. However, she tells her dog that his purpose is very different, that he is a loving dog. And he takes this task very seriously! He will love you whether you want it or not.
Leena goes on to say in her love letter: “You are not my dog. I will never really own you and it’s also the last thing that I want”
This is so touching as some people think that they should be able to control everything that their dogs do. When in fact, they are their own free souls. She goes on to explain that sometimes it is horrible to have to reason with our dogs who have such strong will powers.
The stubbornness that our dogs may have can really drive us crazy sometimes, but are we not exactly the same?
Leena’s love letter points out the most important things we can learn from our dogs, being in the present and receiving love.
She promises her dog Aivy that she will always be by his side and that he will have an equal position in their family. Because dogs are our family. They are our companions, our best friends, and the love of our lives. They deserve our love, respect, and loyalty in return.
Thank you Leena for your beautiful sentiment towards your dog through your love letter, and for inspiring others to love their dogs in the same way.
